Set Up Your Business Online

Much of the work to get your online business started begins by defining what products or services you sell or what you want to inform visitors about.

Online Business Goals – Think About These Three Types of Website Models

E-commerce Enabled – sell your product or service over the internet through your website

Lead Generation – create leads from visitors on your site either through a phone call, email or in-store visit with some call to action or offer (e.g. coupon offers).

Informational - provide basic information about your business such as services offered, location and directions, news/events, etc.

No matter what online business model you choose, you should use tools to capture the visitors’ email address with a newsletter, new product announcement, coupon alert or some other means to have them “opt in” to receive an email from you. Once you get their permission to follow up with them, you can email them with what they want, just don’t spam them to death.

For your business website select an online business objective that fits your needs then start to list what you want visitors to know and what you want them to do. As an FYI, an online business ecommerce website will cost more to design and maintain than any of the other online business models. However it can be well worth it if your product or service justifies it.
What results do you want your website to achieve?

If the result of your online business strategy is to increase sales, how are you going to increase sales?

Is it through a product specific website to generate online business or is it through just getting visitors to call your toll free number for more information?

Maybe you just want to inform visitors of your hours and location.

The answer will depend on the model you choose and how you design and build your online business model. We will discuss further how you can design a website to maximize your efforts and measure the effectiveness of you online business campaign using Google Analytics at the end.
